Virágos kert a horgosi nagytemplom
Új daloskönyv a Vajdaságból
New publication: Németh István – Juhász Gyula: Folk Songs of Horgos/Horgoš [a village in the Voivodina region of northern Serbia]. Published in 2024 (Zenta, Serbia/Budapest, Hungary) by the Voivodina Institute of Hungarian Culture and the Hungarian Heritage House. The publication presents Hungarian folk song traditions of Horgos and the neighboring community of Királyhalom/Bački Vinogradi along with the 150 year history of local folk music research. Recordings from the folk music archives of the Hungarian Institute of Musicology and the Voivodina Hungarian Institute of Culture were used and are presented in the publication with collector’s name, informant’s name and relevant dates. They are grouped according to type of melody and include comment on the song’s community function, performance style, and spread of usage. Included are: outlaw and herders songs, songs sung at Whit suntide, Christmas, weddings, funerals and children’s games. More than 400 songs (10 hours of recordings) can be heard on the online supplement. Highly recommended as a resource for researchers, teachers, musicians and traditional singers alike.
