Isten éltesse Timár Sándort!
Happy Birthday Timár Sándor! On October 2nd Timár Sándor celebrates his 95th birthday. The legendary dancer, dance teacher, choreographer and folk dance ensemble director who developed a method for teaching improvised authentic traditional dances: he was one of those who inspired and initiated the dance house movement. No longer active, his large family [and indeed the whole táncház movement] carries on his work. He was master teacher of folk dance at the Hungarian Ballet Academy starting in the 1970s, he was director and choreographer of the Bartók Ensemble, Hungarian State Folk Dance Ensemble, Timár Ensemble, Csillagszeműek, and the Timár Academy. This year a series of events celebrates his work and legacy – still to come are: a Timár Gála at the National Dance Theatre on September 26th, a conference at the Hungarian Academy of Arts on October 2nd, and the Hungarian State Folk Dance Ensemble’s tribute on November 8th.
