Árendás Péter: A discussion of Erik Satie's Musique d'ameublement (Furniture Music) from 1917 and concept of background music designed to be part of the environment, like furniture, rather than music to be actively listened to. Árendás uses Satie’s idea as a point of departure for discussion of the recorded music played before and/or after a concert or at a festival, particularly at Hungarian folk music/dance/dance house events. Árendás points out how nice it is when music preceeding and/or after an event allows the audience to enter, or stay in the atmosphere of the music played live. He calls on concert and festival organizers to keep this in mind and plan what recorded music is played at the concert venues. He notes that Budapest’s Hungarian Heritage House provided especially good recorded music at two events: one in December of last year, the other at their venue within the large August 20th Folk Arts Market on Castle Hill in Budapest.
