Farewell to dr. professor Fügedi János 1953–2025 internationally and nationally recognized and respected Hungarian dance notation expert, dance researcher and educator. His scientific career was dedicated to dance notation – that is, documenting movement on paper, and striving for a more exact description and analysis thereof. His most important work in this area was published in 2011 with the title "Tánc-Jel-Írás" the English version of which is "Signs of Dance". He taught dance notation at the Hungarian Academy of Dance from 1988 onward where he was respected for being ’humanely strict’ and possesing a unique sense of humour that lent an extraordinary atmosphere to his classes. The results of his lifework were published in 12 books and more than 200 articles. From 1987 on, he had a position as researcher at the Hungarian Institute of Musicology and led the folk dance research department for more than 15 years – until 2023. He was an active member of international dance research and dance notation organizations. Rest in Peace. Printed here are eulogies from colleagues Richter Pál, Hortobágyi Gyöngyvér, and János’ two sons: Fügedi Gergely, Fügedi Áron.
