Az elsők! – Ötvenéves a néptánctagozat
Celebrating 50 years since the first students specializing in folk dance at the Hungarian State Ballet Institute finished in 1975. Héra Éva was asked to speak at the event. Her speech began with an overview of the economic, historical, social situation in Hungary in 1975. "...This was the first period of Kádár’s consolidation, the beginning of economic reform policies. The first generation since the war, had grown up….culture received unprecedented support, theatres were performing contemporary western works…” This was the atmosphere when the first group of professionally trained folk dancers got their diplomas... AND it was the beginning of the táncház movement. A new generation of folklore researchers and choreographers came out of the department of folk dance and ethnography of the Institute of Folk Culture – as did Timár Sándor, master teacher of folk dance at the Ballet Institute starting in 1971. Timár said: "I believe in the independent strength of folk music and folk dance – I also believe that with the tools of folk dance I can fully express myself without turning to any foreign forms.” The students from the class of ’75 were the first group of teachers in the dance houses, workshops and camps of the táncház movement.
