Traditional Hungarian Cuisine: Christmas Kalács is a sweet yeast-leavened egg bread – like the Jewish challah, or sometimes called brioche or milk-loaf in English. Traditionally Hungarians make kalács at Christmas, Easter, for weddings and other big celebrations. It is often a braided loaf and may have raisins or candied fruit in it.
