Éri István Péter 1953–2023 October 15: Éri Pityu was the charismatic, well-known musician (folk viola, long flute, voice, etc) who travelled Hungary and the world with Muzsikás Ensemble for more than 40 years. For the last 20 years or so he also hosted and produced a weekly folk music program known as ’Folk Music Without Borders’ broadcast on Hungary’s Kossuth Radio. He was an ethnographe and grew up in a family of Hungarian folk dance and music researchers, ethnographers. He was a leading personality of the dance house movement whose hospitality and family have been a center for generations of dance house musicians and their social circles. Printed here is the eulogy given by his friend, student, musician and ethnomusicologist Salamon Soma – at the funeral on October 22 in Tordas, Hungary.
