The Transylvanian village of Szék, in Kolozs (Cluj) County, Romania had a salt mine for 500 years and because of this it was always a center. In 1990 the population was 5000. In the Budapest dance houses it is famous for its traditional dances, music and costume. The Szék dance houses were any house in the village where they would clear out the furniture of one room and hire musicians for a dance event. "…the unmarried boys and girls strive to organize dance houses as much as possible, as these are the venues for social life and choosing a mate. From autumn through spring, this is also where they hold the spinning bees. A week looked like this: Tuesday – Friday: spinning bee; Saturday- Sunday: dance; Monday: break.”
