FolkMagazin’s first annual Special Issue features 31 pages of black and white photographs by Hungarian photographer Endrődi Péter. The majority of the photographs portray traditional life in Transylvania’s Gyimes region, including the dance and music life, taken between 1984 and 1996. Endrödi’s photographs are well-known in dance house circles as they have been exhibited at key dance house venues (Marcibányi tér, FMH, Fonó) in Budapest and appear regularly in FolkMAGazin.
Endrődi Péter was born in Budapest in 1951. He studied at the secondary school of arts in Budapest and worked at MTI, Budapest’s Kunst Halle, and in Eövtös Lóránd University’s library. He began doing photography in the 1970s. He also writes poetry and paints (examples of which are also included in this Special Issue). An introduction by folklore researcher Sándor Ildikó is found on page 2 summarizing Endrődi’s work.
