Borbély Jolán (1928-2018 ethnographer) was Martin György’s wife, her son (Éri Péter) Martin’s stepson, grew up with Martin. When Borbély Jolán first met Martin, he was 16, she was already a university student. They danced together in the Csokanai, Ruggyantagyár and SZOT folk dance ensembles. By the early 1950s Borbély and Martin were working together in the dance research department of the ethnographic institute directed by Muharay Elemer. They went out to village communities to document folk dance together, most of which was funded by them. After Martin’s death she worked with Sebő Ferenc to place his private library in the Hungarian Heritage House. Pesovár Ernő, Martin György, Pesovár Ferenc and Borbely Jolán were the first ones to write their university diploma projects on traditional folk dance - but they were on their own in their work, there was no one who could guide them.
