Transcribing Authentic Folk Music. An academic paper discussing problems of transcribing authentic Hungarian folk music. It has already been proven that written music is not capable of giving a true rendition of the original traditional music, nevertheless there is a need to have written music for education and research. What can written music do, and where does it fall short? The author ends with the recommendation that ’every practicing folk musician try writing down a few melodies. If nothing else, the experience will be thought-provoking’. By Kovács Márton.
