Life in the village in Bukovina circa 1930. There are two stories here. One is about supper for a very poor family with five children. The supper consisted of polenta with curdled milk, which had to be eaten with the greatest of care and thus appreciated because there was so very little of it to go around. The other story is about neighbors helping out another neighbor who was physically unable to cut the grass in his own field. He mentions the good feeling of working and talking with friends in the process of helping someone out.
