Sebő Ferenc (1947 – April 27th 2026.) FolkMAGazin prints selected farewells and comments that appeared on social media in the overwhelming wave of response to the news of his death. These words from more than 30 of Sebő’s close friends, colleagues, students, acquaintances celebrate his talents, knowledge and music. They express so much respect and esteem for Sebő Ferenc who, as a founder, a leader, musician, singer, teacher, professor, inspiration, musicologist, researcher and artist – has been such an important figure in the dance house movement.
Sebestyén Márta wrote: “It is uplifting to listen to [Sebő’s] final dynamic speech [at the táncháztalálkozó on Saturday April 25th, www/youtube.com/watch?v=7SKGXdRhmhc&t=8]. It is simply bewildering that some 24 hours later, he departed for immortality. He finished up as beautifully and succinctly as he always lived. I have never seen anyone so active and continuously ablaze. It is so symbolic to see him surrounded by young musicians up to the last minute. Everyone on stage looks at him with such admiring respect - not to mention the audience of several thousand - something to take along with him on his big journey. Live on Feri, you have been a huge gift to all of us – and all Hungarians.”
