Bartók’s bagpipers. After a brief survey of the history of Hungarian scientists collecting folk instruments outside of Hungary, this article then focuses on ethnographic collection work done on bagpipers from the period of 1900–1930’s. During that period Bartók collected by far the most bagpipe melodies (175 of them – see chart in article in Hungarian) amongst the various ethnic groups in the region. Bibliography included. By G.
