New Year's Greeting
"O Lord, save thy people / and bless thine heritage”

The motto of our festive program is the twenty-first line of the Te Deum, which is an especially timely one today: "O Lord, save thy people / and bless thine heritage.” By choosing this passage, our intention is to continue, deepen and complete the message of last year's gala programme, ‘Te Deum', the unity of Hungarians in the Carpathian Basin and the monumental idea of mutual respect between ourselves and both the peoples who live among us and our neighbors, as formulated by Bartók.

At this concert, which emphasises the universality of the holiday season with classical music programmes and an audience spanning several generations, the mystery of the birth of the God-child and the hope that the New Year brings for a fresh start offer a particularly deep interpretation of what are perhaps familiar programme elements, showing how we can become partners in the work of creation. As we look for meaning in the world and our human existence, it is perhaps only through the language of the arts - especially through song, dance, music and taking part in rites and ceremonies - that we can provide guidance and eternal answers. At this eighth gala programme in the series of New Year's greetings launched in 2015, our aim is to give both the performers and the audience the opportunity to do just that.
