The “hídi vásár” [bridge market] in the Hortobágy region was the site of Hungary’s largest animal market and traditional meeting place for Hungarian herders. Later on, the meetings were consciously held on August 20th to bring the traditional herders together in ethnographer dr Béres András’s loosely organized effort to promote and preserve the tradition. Kunkovács began photographing there in 1974 and continued for decades until the old generation of herders passed on. 6 pages of photographs of herders at this celebration.
