This special issue entitled [Juhos Kiss Sándor: Szék Roots] presents paintings by Juhos Kiss Sándor. Juhos Kiss was born in 1968 in the Transylvanian town of Szamosujvár/ Gherla in Kolozs /Cluj County (Romania). He finished secondary school at the school for the arts in Kolozsvár /Cluj Napoca (RO) where he studied under Kádár Tibor. Between 1990 and 1995 he studied under Gerzson Pál, Magyar Márton, Kiss Tibor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest. In 1993 he recieved the Barcsay Jenő Award. He has been teaching drawing and art history to secondary school students in Budapest since 1995. In 2001 he moved with his family to the town of Telki, Hungary where he established his own studio. Many of the paintings reproduced in this special issue portray life in the Transylvanian village of Szék/Sic (a few kilometers outside Juhos Kiss’s hometown). He is described as a realist impasto anecdotal or genre painter. Most of the paintings were originally in oil on canvas.
